1408 (2007): A Macabre Review.

1408 Poster
Starring John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack
Directed by Mikael Hafstrom

Hello there.  Today I I'm going to take a look at 1408.  As most of you probably know, it was adapted from the Stephen King short story of the same name.  I have not actually read the short story, so I can't exactly compare it to the movie adaptation.  Anyway, let's begin.

Necropolis Update (July 30, 2013)

Hello everyone.  Just wanted to say that starting in the next day or two, I'm going to debut a new segment called "Horror From Home."  This segment isn't much different than my normal "Macabre Reviews" (in that I'll still review movies), but there is one major difference: in "Horror From Home" I will be reviewing the movies I actually own, whereas in "Macabre Reviews" I review movies I see in theaters, rentals, streaming, borrowed from friends, you get the idea.  And I'll be doing these reviews in alphabetical order.  Why?  I don't know really.  Convenience, or maybe I have OCD.  Who knows?  I just thought it would be a way for you to get to know me a wee bit better.  I mean, you can learn a lot from someone by looking at their movie collection.  Right?

Anyway, it's something I'll do from time to time, whenever I don't particularly have anything I want to (or can't) review.  Bear in mind, some of these movie I own suck.  I sometimes just buy movies when I see them around for sale when I haven't actually watched them.  And I've paid dearly for this more than once.  But hey, more reviewing material right?

There will be some I won't actually review.  The main reasons being either I plan to use them for retrospectives (Critters, for example), or they just don't plain need reviewing.  I mean, you don't really need me to review any of George Romero's 'Dead' series, do you?  Or the Evil Dead movies?  I will review them if you really want me to, just let me know at some point before I get to the letter E part of my movies.

That's the biggest thing I wanted to bring up.  As well, however, I'm reading a book which I plan to review sometime down the road.  I'll save it for a surprise though, just to keep you guessing.  Oh, and I guess I should apologize for the space between reviews lately.  It just gets busy out in the real world, and I'm trying to balance things out.  But mauny thanks for all of the views for my review of The Conjuring.  I've noticed it's become my most viewed of all my posts.  It puts a huge rictus grin on my face.  :D

Farewell for now.

The Conjuring (2013): A Macabre Review.

The Conjuring
Starring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Lily Taylor
Directed by James Wan

Well hello there.  I just finished watching The Conjuring a little while ago, and am here to give my thoughts on it.  I wasn't really sure what to expect from this, as I've been reluctant to trust trailers after the disasters that were The Apparition and Chernobyl Diaries.  But the word on this movie was good, so I thought I'd see for myself.

When The Lights Went Out (2012): A Macabre Review.

When The Lights Went Out Poster
Starring Kate Ashfield, Tasha Connor, Steven Waddington
Directed by Pat Holden

Greetings once again.  After the bad time I had watching Knife Edge, I felt I needed to give British films a chance to redeem itself.  However, not with something I had already seen, but something new that would hopefully grab and hold my attention.  Enter When The Lights Went Out.  With The Conjuring soon to be released in theater, I figured a good haunted house movie would be fitting.  So let's not waste any time, and dive right in.
