Werewolf Rising (2014): A Macabre Review.

Werewolf Rising
Starring Melissa Carnell, Bill Oberst Jr., Matt Copko
Directed by BC Furtney
Greetings you lovable creatures.  Today I'm taking the opportunity to do my very first review of a werewolf-themed horror movie.  Werewolf Rising is a low budget entry from Ruthless Pictures and Image Entertainment, and I was fortunate to have gotten a copy of the movie for reviewing purposes.  So let's get into it and see what you're in for.

Happy Birthday To Me (1981): A Macabre Review.

Happy Birthday To Me
Starring: Melissa Sue Anderson, Glenn Ford, Lawrence Dane
Directed by J. Lee Thompson

Seeing as how my birthday is here, I decided to take it upon myself to review something with a birthday theme.  And today I'm talking about a movie that can't be more aptly named, Happy Birthday To Me.  I've had originally intended to do a review for this last year, but it just wasn't in the cards.  This year, however, is a different matter.  Director J. Lee Thompson doesn't have a whole lot of horror-related directing under his belt, but he did direct two Planet of the Apes sequels, so I took that as a good sign that things will go well here.  Was I correct in that thinking?  Well, let's find out.

Dead On Appraisal (2014): A Macabre Review.

Dead On Appraisal
Starring Zack Fahey, Mike Pfaff, Marguerite Insolia
Directed By Sean Canfield, Scott Dawson, and David Sherbrook

Hello again my freakish followers.  Today I'm returning to the world of Brain Damage Films with another anthology entry.  Dead On Appraisal shares a similarity with Horror House, another anthology movie I previously reviewed, in that it revolves around a real estate agent trying to sell a house with a rather dark history .  But that's pretty much where the similarities end.

Absentia (2011): A Macabre Review.

Starring Katie Parker, Courtney Bell, Dave Levine
Directed  by Mike Flanagan

Indie horror has been pretty hit and miss for me over the years, and it's because of this that I rarely get high hopes when I dive into the next one.  And as I've mentioned in the past, I can no longer trust trailers thanks to movies like The Apparition and Chernobyl Diaries, which promised good things but failed to deliver.

Godzilla (2014): A Macabre Review.

Godzilla 2014
Starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron-Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe
Directed by Gareth Edwards

As a kid I grew up on Godzilla, the first one I watched being King Kong vs. Godzilla if I recall correctly.  From then on I was hooked.  Granted, some of the movies were not that great, but there was definitely some level of entertainment value in each one.  Then the 1998 Godzilla hit.  I don't think I need to get into what that movie did to Godzilla fans, but I know my mental scars are pretty much faded away these days.

And then I had heard about a new American Godzilla movie in the works.  Naturally I was plenty worried about it.  Then the first trailer popped up.  I won't deny that hearing the Godzilla scream at the end of the trailer gave me chills, and my worry immediately turned into excitement.  Like many fans of the King of the Monsters, I rewatched some of the old Toho classics in preparation for the theatrical release.  Then last night I sat down in the theater seat to soak in the awesomeness.

Murder University (2012): A Macabre Review.

Murder University
Starring Jamie Dufault, Michael Thurber, Samantha Acampora
Directed by Richard Griffin

Hello once again. After a brief involuntary hiatus from reviewing, I'm finally back to try to pick up the slack. I've been wanting to  watch and talk about another movie directed by Richard Griffin. And so I decided to go with today's choice, Murder University.  Let's get to it.

Formula For A Murder (1985): A Macabre Review.

Formula For A Murder
Starring Christina Nagy, David Warbeck, Carroll Blumenberg
Directed by Alberto De Martino

It's been a while since I reviewed something a little older, and thanks to the nice people at Shameless Films, I'll be doing just that today.  It's a return to Italy for a review of Formula For a Murder (aka 7, Hyden Park: La Casa Maledetta).  Although,  it's not exactly a return to Italy per se, as the movie itself takes place in New York City.  Well, you get what I'm saying.  Let's begin.

Rabid Love (2013): A Macabre Review.

Rabid Love
Starring Hayley Derryberry, Jessica Sonneborn, Brandon Stacy
Directed by Paul J. Porter

If I had to pick my favorite decade for horror, it would have to be the 80s.  Sure, the 80s had some horrible movies like any other decade, but it also had some of horror's most memorable characters, one-liners, and practical effects.  And when someone tries to capture the 80s feel for their movie it definitely piques my interest.  It also worries me a little, for fear that the movie will fail utterly in that regard.

Exhumed (2011): A Macabre Review.

Exhumed
Starring Debbie Rochon, Sarah Nicklin, Michael Thurber
Directed by Richard Griffin

For today's review I'm traveling back to the magical year of 2011.  At least I think it was magical, I don't really remember a whole lot about that year.  And no, alcohol wasn't a factor.  Ok, it wasn't a HUGE factor.  Anyway,  I've watched a LOT of horror in my time, but there is an equal (or maybe even greater) amount that I still have yet to see.  Enter Exhumed, a movie that I'm embarrassed to say escaped my radar until recently.  This is thanks to Rob at the wonderful Wild Eye Releasing, who was nice enough to send me a goodie-bag (or box in this case) of horror flicks to watch and review.

Head Cases: Serial Killers In The Delaware Valley (2013): A Macabre Review.

Head Cases
Starring Paul McCloskey, Brinke Stevens, Mark Cray
Directed by Anthony Spadaccini

It's serial killer time here at the Necropolis Macabre, and today I'm talking about Head Cases: Serial Killers In The Delaware Valley.  My thanks go to director Anthony Spadaccini, who was nice enough to hook me up with a screener earlier in the week.  It's been a while since I watched either a serial killer movie or a mockumentary, so let's get into it and see what I thought of this.

GUT (2012): A Macabre Review.

GUT
Starring Jason Vail, Nicholas Wilder, Sarah Schoofs
Directed by Elias

Today I talk about GUT, a movie I was requested to watch and review by Anna Ganster, who produced the movie.  My thanks to Anna for providing the screener link.  I had meant to review this a little earlier, but those real-world distractions had it in mind to delay me as much as possible.  But I'm here now, and I'm going to review this movie before I get delayed again.

Children Of Sorrow (2014): A Macabre Review.

Children of Sorrow
Starring Bill Oberst Jr., Hannah Levien, Whitney Nielsen

Directed by Jourdan McClure

"He Lied".  Well if that's an understatement, I don't know what is.  Today I'm talking about Children of Sorrow, a movie that just came out on DVD on March 4th.  I wanted to go in fresh with this one, so I did my best to read as little about the movie as possible.  What happened next was an experience, to say the least.

Dead Of The Nite (2013): A Macabre Review.

Dead of the Nite
Starring Cicely Tennant, Joseph Millson, Tony Todd
Directed by S.J. Evans

What's this?  An Indy horror with Tony Todd?  Why, yes please.  Such movies seem like they'll be a real treat, but the problem is that quite often, when these amazing stars are gaining such attention for the movies they are in, the fact of the matter is that they don't usually have much screen time.  Much like the first time I watched Hatchet.  I was excited when I heard that Tony Todd was in it, just to be let down when his all of five-minute tops scene was all I got (I still enjoyed the movie, mind you).

La Horde (2009): A Macabre Review.

La Horde
Starring Claude Perron, Jean-Pierre Martins
Directed by Yannick Dahan, Benjamin Rocher

So, given that my last couple of reviews have been for rather sub-par movies, I figured it was time to review something that would give me a little less strain on my sanity.  So recently I re-watched the 2009 French zombie flick La Horde.  Surely this cured my mental woes, right?  Let's discuss.

The Taking (2013): A Macabre Review.

The Taking
Starring John Halas, Alana Jackler
Directed by Cezil Reed and Lydelle Jackson

There are rare times when I feel a drink or five is needed to help me get through something going on in my life.  And as it so happens, today was one of those days.  Last September I posted a trailer for The Taking, and it looked like it had quite a lot of promise.  But the magic of trailers is in making you believe something is going to be amazing.  And what of The Taking? Well, let's get right into it.

The Complete History of The Return of the Living Dead: The Gravedigger's Book Report.

The Complete History of The Return of the Living Dead

Well, it's been a long time coming.  Digging deep into the world of horror isn't a true slogan if all I review is horror movies.  So today I finally branch out to talk about a book I just recently finished reading: The Complete History of The Return of the Living Dead, by Christian Sellers and Gary Smart, and published by Plexus Publishing, which mainly deal in illustrated, non-fiction titles under a range of topics.  But enough about that, let's get into the review itself!

Ridge War Z (2013): A Macabre Review.

Ridge War Z Poster
Starring Tyler Allen, Alek Gearhart, Kyle Gordon
Directed by Alek Gearhart

So here we are, the first month of the year done already.  I thought I'd end the month off with something I haven't tackled in a little while: zombies.  Ridge War Z was directed by Alek Gearhart, and was apparently filmed on a miniscule $1000 budget.  Doesn't sound like much will come of this, but maybe we'll see a miracle?  Let's find out.

Devil's Due (2014): A Macabre Review.

Devil's Due
Starring Allison Miller, Zach Gilford
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett

Aaand we're back.  This time I'm tackling Devil's Due, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.  This appears to be the debut feature-length directing gig for both of them, so I'm sure both their powers combined can come up with a great full length movie, right?

Night of the Naked Dead (2013): A Macabre Review.

Night of the Naked Dead
Starring Emma Gruttadauria, Joshua Koopman, Alexandra Creteau
Directed by Junius Podrug

Greetings once again.  Here we have a movie I've hesitated to watch, mainly because of the title.  But I knew I had to do it sooner or later, and so I made it my goal to get it done.  Night of the Naked Dead was released by Brain Damage Films, and directed by Junius Podrug.  This is his directorial debut, so let's get into it and see if he has that beginner's luck.
