Infinite Santa 8000 (2013): A Macabre Review.

Greetings my scary sycophants.  Today I'm taking a look at a movie I debated reviewing, mainly because it's not exactly scary, and not something I define as horror.  That movie being Infinite Santa 8000.  While there are some horror elements in it, it's really more of a post-apocalyptic action-fest.  However, given that it has at least something to do with Christmas, I decided to go ahead and review it anyway.  Let's begin.

Infinite Santa 8000 is based on a 13-episode web series of the same name, created by Greg Ansin and Michael Neel.  In the year 8000, after a war decimated the planet, there are still some people scattered around the world.  Including Santa, who is more machine now than man, but is still full of goodness and holiday cheer.  He lives on a ranch he built, along with his robotic  reindeer and childlike robot companion Martha.

One night, while he and Martha slept, Martha was kidnapped by the Easter Bunny (just roll with it).  Santa manages to get Martha back, but learns that the Bunny was actually following the orders of Santa's arch-nemesis Dr. Shackleton.  It isn't long before Martha is abducted again and held in Shackleton's base.  Santa wastes no time and goes in fully armed to battle the Doctor's legion of robots and twisted mutant experiments.

Durrr, I go kill Santa now.

Infinite Santa 8000 has a very amusing concept, but unfortunately the execution leaves something to be desired.  There are a few scenes that dragged on for too long, for example the Santa/Easter Bunny chase scene.  I think that if there was more actual animation in the movie the scene would have been more exciting.  However, the animation style used made the scene feel like it went on too long.

And, I'm sorry, but I didn't really care for the voice acting for Santa.  His voice was grating on my nerves for much of the movie, especially with his grunts and groans when under stressful situations.  What really doesn't help is that he talks quite a lot, so it was a little difficult for me personally to enjoy myself.  I didn't have an issue with the rest of the voice work however.

There ain't no chains, can hold my body down.

Which brings me to the dialogue.  It was not that great.  There were a few good moments from Dr. Shackleton, but a large portion of the dialogue was terrible one-liners and puns.  And not the good kind of bad either.  And given that many of those lines were said by Santa, you can guess how I was handling the whole thing.  I chuckled at a few of them, but the movie is littered with ones that didn't, and in this case a few chuckles just wasn't good enough for me.

That's not to say there aren't good elements.  While I wasn't the biggest fan of the animation, the artwork itself was very appealing to me, and I really liked the colors they used for the scenery and many of the characters and mutants you get to see.  And I also liked the soundtrack, which was primarily heavy metal.  Although at the same time a little variety would have been nice.

Finally, there is quite a lot of action throughout.  Sparks fly, blood sprays, and limbs are removed in as bloody and violent a way as possible.  Again, in my opinion the animation style used somewhat hindered the action, but there was still some entertainment value in seeing such carnage.

Well, as you can clearly see, I'm not such a  big fan of Infinite Santa 8000.  But if you're looking for something a little different to add to your Christmas movie playlist, you might want to consider checking this out for yourselves.  You might want to check out the webisodes first before you movie on to the movie.  You don't actually need to see them to get what's going on in the movie, but it'll help determine whether or not you'll enjoy going through 90 minutes straight.  Until next time, rest in peace.
