Horror House (2013): A Macabre Review.

Horror House Poster
Starring Lloyd Kaufman, Catharina Christie, John Wuchte
Directed by Evan Marlowe

Greetings fellow creepazoids.  This time around I'm going to take a look at the super low-budget horror anthology Horror House, directed by Evan Marlowe, and starring none other than Troma head honcho Lloyd Kaufman himself.  I've always had a soft spot for anthologies.  Every anthology I've ever seen had at least one story I enjoyed watching.  So allow me to talk a little about Horror House and we'll see whether or not this was an exception to the rule.

Necropolis News: Infinite Santa 8000 Official Artwork and VOD Release Date!

Infinite Santa 8000

Infinite Santa 8000 will be available on Video On Demand December 1st, 2013.  Official carriers to be announced.

About The Film

Infinite Santa 8000 is the feature length story based on the popular web series of the same name. The original Web Series is 13 episodes long on YouTube which features the same lead characters (Santa, Dr Shackleton, and Martha) but tells a separate story from the film. With a view count of over 720,000 views, the series has garnered a cult following of fans demanding more content. Filmmakers Michael Neel and Greg Ansin, the team behind Midnight Releasing’s Drive-In Horrorshow and the Web Series, decided to give the fans what they want. They took the characters and the universe and have created a full length film with a simple concept: A cyborg Santa Claus killing mutants and robo-people in a vast post apocalyptic wasteland in the year 8000.  With a heavy metal soundtrack, the film features epic battle scenes, violent killing, and a 100-Foot Evil Easter Bunny.

Synopsis

A thousand years ago the world completely collapsed. Not much remains, except for the mutants, scum, and robo-people. Everyone must kill to survive.

Even Santa.

It is the year 8000. War, famine, and disease have ravaged the earth, transforming it into an inhospitable, desolate wasteland. Infinite Santa – half human and half machine – survives any way he can in this bleak world. Despite his tough existence, Infinite Santa still dreams of keeping the Christmas spirit alive by spreading goodwill and cheer to the nice people of the world.  But as the years have passed it has become harder for Infinite Santa. Instead of good people, all he finds are evildoers and hideous, no-good robo-mutations.

His one ray of hope is Martha, a robot girl full of the Christmas spirit. He rescued her from a deadly situation, and now she is like a daughter to him. They have a hard life but a good one, living on Santa’s ranch with his robo-reindeer. But Santa’s luck is about to run out. Santa’s arch-enemy, the evil mad scientist Dr. Shackleton, has found Santa again. Shackleton hates Santa and his stupid holiday, and will stop at nothing to uncover Infinite Santa’s mysterious secrets…and then destroy Infinite Santa once and for all. Dr. Shackleton is no fool. He knows how powerful Infinite Santa is, and has built an army to destroy him and Martha. Batsharks, Crabmonkeys, Dragonfly Snakes, Octo-Blobs, and Skin-Bots - and if they can’t kill Infinite Santa, a 100-foot Evil Easter Bunny should do the trick.

This fight will test Infinite Santa to his limits. He’ll need machine guns, flamethrowers, machetes, knives, jet packs, ornament grenades, and everything else in his arsenal just to survive.

Insidious Chapter 2 (2013): A Macabre Review.

Insidious Chapter 2
Starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye
Directed by James Wan

Well, I saw Insidious: Chapter 2 last night.  I was going into it with a fair amount of optimism, as I did enjoy the first Insidious despite it's relatively high number of jump scares.  The characters were well done, most of the jump scares were pretty effective, and while the last third of the movie got kind of strange with the whole astral projection trip into "The Further," all in all it was a good time.  So now I'll talk about the sequel and if it's worth a trip to the cinema.

Necropolis News: Maxim Media International Acquires “Slaughter Daughter”

SD_PromoPoster_NotFinalArtwork

Terrible daughter. Perfect killer.

Maxim Media International, a worldwide distributor of independent horror films has acquired Slaughter Daughter for worldwide distribution. Plans are underway to release the film on DVD and Video On Demand with the North America imprint Brain Damage Films. Official artwork and release dates are coming soon!

About the Film:

Slaughter Daughter is the brainchild of Director Travis Campbell and Writer/Producer Lauren Miller. Campbell and Miller also partnered up on their previous feature, Mr. Bricks: A Heavy Metal Murder Musical. After Mr. Bricks was completed, they begin brainstorming a new idea about a matricidal young woman named Farrah. They immediately thought of Nicola Fiore, one of the stars of Mr. Bricks, to play the lead. Italian Giallo films of the 1970s, soap operas, and true crime novels all became the inspirations behind Slaughter Daughter.

In January of 2011, the team began to build an online presence for the film and shot the first of what would become a weekly web series lasting 8 episodes. The series focused in on Farrah’s stint in a mental hospital and aired on YouTube. From there, the team pulled up their socks and climbed the uphill battle of making independent film. Fueled by inspiration and determination, they completed the project and gave birth to something truly inspired.

Slaughter Daughter is an inspirational film to me.” says director Travis Campbell. “I know this sounds strange since it is a horror movie, yet making the film was an opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone. I was excited to get inside the female psyche. Independent film is a hard business, and some say it is dead. There is no money and at the end of the night, you know you have to go back to the daily grind the next morning. My hope is my movie will stand out and rescue you from this monotony. With Slaughter Daughter I believe this is entirely possible.

The webisode playlist is available here.

Full Synopsis:

After being left at the altar 5 years ago, ex-beauty queen Farrah Adjani has receded into her own world. She lives at home in an apartment shared by her mother and aunt, and rarely comes out of her room. She spends her time flipping through the 24-hour news cycle and feeding her obsession with Jackson Miles, a recently convicted serial killer. Everything changes when her overbearing drunk of a mother returns home from her date, flashes a ring, and announces 'Mommy's getting married!' Thrown into a tailspin, Farrah makes a drastic move to get noticed by Jackson Miles. She wants to learn everything Jackson knows about murder.  Farrah never could be the perfect daughter, but can she be the perfect killer? On her mother's wedding day, she's planning to find out!

Frankenstein's Army (2013): A Macabre Review.

Frankenstein's Army Poster

Well, yesterday was the DVD/BluRay release of Frankenstein's Army.  And from the poster and some of the screenshots I had seen, this was one movie I definitely had to check out.  I didn't do a whole lot of research before watching it, as sometimes I like to maximize my surprise while watching.  So I was sort of surprised that it's actually shot in a "found footage" style.  It also happens to be  the first feature film directed by Richard Raaphorst, so how did he do in his debut?  Well, allow me to tell you all about it.

All American Zombie Drugs (2010): A Macabre Review.

All American Zombie Drugs Poster
Starring Beau Nelson, Wolfgang Weber, Natalie Irby
Directed by Alex Ballar

These days, it seems like most of the world is on some kind of drug, whether it be for medicinal or recreational purposes.  Today I'm looking at All American Zombie Drugs, a movie that revolves purely around the recreational type of drugs.  It was written and directed by Alex Ballar, and was apparently shot in only 10 days on a budget of approximately $200,000.  Though it has a production date of 2010, the movie didn't get a DVD release date of April 23, 2013, and a VOD release date of June 23, 2013.  I was hoping to review it a little closer to either of the release dates, but better late than never right?  Let us begin.

John Carpenter's Vampires (1998): A Macabre Review.

John Carpenter's Vampires Poster
Starring James Woods, Daniel Baldwin, Sheryl Lee
Directed by John Carpenter

Ahh the good old days of vampires, when bloodsuckers were savage and merciless, and they DIDN'T FRIGGIN SPARKLE!!!!!  Ahem.  Anyway these were the days when I liked vampires and actively watched vampire movies without any reluctance.  So I wanted to take a trip back in time and talk about one of them.  John Carpenter's Vampires, which was released back in 1998, had my attention immediately because of its star James Woods, and of course John Carpenter.  At the time, I was rather curious to see if Vampires measured up to the other great horror movies prior.  And today, I'm gonna talk about it and see how it holds up after all these years since it's release.
